The Story

The photographs in Talking to Ants were made in East London between 2009 and 2013 by British photographer Stephen Gill. They feature objects and creatures sourced from the local surroundings and placed into the body of the camera, with the aim of evoking the feeling of the area at the same time as describing its appearance; the subject being both in front of and behind the camera lens at the same moment. Gill refers to these photographs as "in-camera photograms", in which conflict or harmony has been randomly formed in the final image depending on where the objects landed. Thanks to Archive of Modern Conflict (London).

72 pages, 25 x 25cm, hardcover, Archive of Modern Conflict (London).
