Rubén Montesinos – A Guide on Gardening II

Continuing with the visual research into the art of topiary, this new instalment of A Guide on Gardening shifts its focus to explore the concept of Niwaki. Through the photographic documentation of trees in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo, the project examines how pruning practices extend beyond ornamental technique to embody principles of contemplation, harmony, and an intimate relationship with the surrounding environment. The resulting images capture a tradition deeply embedded in Japanese culture-one that shapes nature with restraint and precision, offering a nuanced perspective on topiary as a form of cultural expression.
