The Story

Enamoured of decorative ornament, posing a challenge to modernism, and drawing inspiration from the realm of architecture, the provocative designs of the Italian group Memphis (1981-1988), founded by architect and designer Ettore Sottsass, caused something of a stir in the 1980s. Less is a Bore: Reflections on Memphis contextualises the creative universe of the designers in relation to the works of international artists Raymond Barion, Eva Berendes, Barbara Kasten, Graham Little, and Tobias Rehberger. The book outlines their shared stylistic history which permeates the borders between design, art, fashion and culture and was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at KAI 10 | Arthena Foundation in Dusseldorf, Germany. Published by Spector Books (Leipzig).

144 pages, 20.5 x 13.5cm, hardcover, Spector Books (Leipzig).
