The Story

This book documents the act of drawing in the midst of becoming. The exercises it presents were created for an exhibition by Dirk Zoete in 2016. He used the space to translate his drawings into three-dimensional theatrical sculptures, embodied by actors photographed in filmic series. The images were then digitally edited and drawn upon. The characters seem to be frozen in a re-enactment of the drawings upon which they were based. Through repetition and change, they reflect a geometrical rhythm in different patterns and constellations. Zoete’s drawings essentially explore the creation of space through line, but without ever aspiring to become an “actual” space. Thanks to Roma Publications (Amsterdam).
128 pages, 20 x 26 cm, paperback, Roma Publications (Amsterdam).
